Signing in Rabat of an agreement establishing the headquarters of the Committee of Capitals of African Culture in Morocco
Rabat – Rabat – An agreement on the establishment of the headquarters of the Committee of African Cultural Capitals in the Kingdom was signed, Tuesday in Rabat, by the Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, and the representative of the Committee, also an expert in culture and arts at UNESCO, Michel Saba.
Under this agreement, the Kingdom will host the headquarters of the Committee, in accordance with the decision of the Executive Council of the African Union (AU), held in July 2023 in Nairobi, based on the report of the technical committee in charge of youth, culture and sports, under the AU, the ministry said in a statement.
He added that this initiative is part of the implementation of the High Vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, aimed at working with and for Africa, adding that South-South cooperation constitutes one of the pillars of the Kingdom’s foreign policy, under the enlightened leadership of HM the King.
Similarly, he recalled that this Committee is an AU initiative aimed at promoting creativity and fostering exchanges between different African cultures. It also aims to strengthen cultural cooperation and promote arts and culture in major African cities.
Furthermore, the Committee is responsible for organizing African cultural events and selecting capitals of African culture among the different countries of the continent, it was continued.
The city of Rabat, which was designated African Capital of Culture in 2023, had organized major cultural events that highlight the richness of African culture.
