Islamabad: Pakistan’s Waziristan province has become a headache for the Pakistani army. The Pakistani army has launched a major military operation to drive out the Afghan Taliban and Pakistan Taliban (TTP) from North and South Waziristan. However, the Pakistani army is paying a heavy price for this military operation. The Pakistani army’s propaganda wing Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Friday that six soldiers were killed in two separate operations in North and South Waziristan, while 12 extremists were also killed. Waziristan is adjacent to Afghanistan. Therefore, the Afghan Taliban has a lot of influence in these areas.
What did the Pakistani army say
The statement issued by the ISPR said, “On 19/20 September 2024, two fierce encounters took place between our troops and extremists in North and South Waziristan districts, resulting in the death of 12 Khawarij [चरमपंथी] killed.” According to the statement, security forces detected the movement of a group of seven militants who were trying to infiltrate into Pakistan through the Afghanistan border in Spinwam area of North Waziristan district. All the seven militants were killed in heavy firing by Pakistani troops and the infiltration bid was successfully foiled, the ISPR claimed. A large quantity of arms, ammunition and explosives were also recovered from the spot, the ISPR said.
Six soldiers killed in Waziristan
Meanwhile, the second incident took place in the general area of Ladha in South Waziristan when a group of “Khawarij” attacked a checkpoint of Pakistan security forces. “Our troops fought bravely, foiled the infiltration attempts and killed five Khawarij. However, during the fierce exchange of fire, six Pakistan Army soldiers were also killed,” the ISPR said. It further said that a clean-up operation was underway to eliminate any other terrorists present in the area. “Pakistan security forces are determined to eliminate the threat of terrorism from the country and such sacrifices of our brave soldiers further strengthen our resolve,” the ISPR added.
