Three more garment factories have been recognized as green factories in Bangladesh. In this, the number of environmentally friendly factories in the country’s clothing sector has reached 229. And including this new factory, 61 of the world’s top 100 garment factories are in Bangladesh. Accredited by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC).
Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) informed on Saturday (September 21).
According to BGMEA, so far 229 factories in the garment and textile sector of the country have received the lead certificate. Among them, 91 lead platinum factories, 124 lead gold factories, 10 silver factories and four certified factories.
Among the world’s top 100 garment factories, including these new factories that have been recognized as leaders, 61 are from Bangladesh. And 22 out of the first 24 of the world’s best are in Bangladesh. Pakistan, which ranks second in setting up green garment factories, has 9, India has seven, Taiwan and Sri Lanka have four each and China, the top garment exporter, has only three.
Entrepreneurs say that Bangladesh is increasing green investment with the aim of creating a pollution-free world; Which will keep them ahead in the competition to get purchase orders. However, if political stability does not return, it will be difficult to bring home the benefits of these achievements.
The new green factory certified factories are Unitex Spinning Limited, Sepal Garments Limited and Anant Huaxiang Limited. Among them, Unitex Spinning Limited got Platinum rating with 83 points and Sepal Garments Limited with 85 points. And Ananta Huaxiang Limited has achieved gold rating with 63 points.
Notably, the US Green Building Council (USGBC) certifies environmentally friendly buildings under the name ‘Lead’. Full version of LEAD Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. To receive this certification, a project must maintain the highest standards from construction to production under the supervision of the USGBC.
Basically, after building the building or renovating the old building, you can apply to the institution. Total points 110 for fulfillment of 9 conditions for LEAD certificate. If above 80 points, ‘Lead Platinum’, ‘Lead Gold’ if 60-79, ‘Lead Silver’ if 50-59 and ‘Lead Certified’ if 40-49 points.
