The Jeonbuk Autonomous Province and university student council presidents communicated for regional development. The governor and university student council presidents met together to create a Jeonbuk where young people want to live.

The Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province announced on the 23rd that Governor Kim Kwan-young of the Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province and student council presidents from 14 universities in the province held a communication meeting for mutual development of the region and universities in the conference room of the provincial government building.

Since taking office as governor in 2022, Governor Kim Kwan-young has held meetings with student councils at each university to actively communicate with young people, but this is the first time that student council presidents from universities in the province have met together in one place.

At the meeting, Governor Kim said, “The 8th elected Jeollabuk-do provincial government believes that the solution to overcoming the crisis of regional extinction lies in educational innovation, and is communicating and cooperating more closely than ever with universities.” He added, “As a result, we are creating a turning point for regional development through education, such as the selection of RIS, RISE pilot regions, Jeonbuk National University and Wonkwang University as global universities, and the 1st and 2nd selections for educational development.”

He also said, “We are doing our best to secure a new growth engine to dramatically develop the regional economy,” and “We expect that the selection of a secondary battery specialized complex and opportunity development special zone will lead to the fostering of various cutting-edge industries and job creation through large-scale investment by companies.”

He continued, “We will provide multifaceted support so that students can acquire the employment capabilities that companies in the province are demanding,” and “We will systematically foster talents who will lead the future of Jeollabuk-do, overcome the population extinction crisis, and do our best to ensure that the region, regional universities, and regional college students can develop together.”

Along with this, Governor Kim said, “For the region to develop, the interest of students is necessary,” and asked, “Please make efforts so that students can become the new growth engine for the region.”

The student council presidents who attended the meeting requested Governor Kim to “establish specific policies and systems so that the transition to RISE can lead to real benefits for college students, along with youth policy support such as improving the quality of university education, job support, and resolving housing issues.”

In relation to this, the Jeonbuk Autonomous Province plans to reflect students’ voices in policies by developing various measures, such as strengthening communication with university students from various fields, including meetings with student council presidents in the future.
