The Campidoglio aims to safeguard the greenery and launches a care operation to save the trees of Via dei Quattro Venti, between Monteverde and Portuense. A hard cure to kill the parasites that are attacking plane trees, elms and other tree species in the area.

The first phase

The endotherapeutic treatment interventions have been started by the Capitoline Department of Environmental Protection on the approximately 200 elms along the Viale dei Quattro Venti and on Piazzale Dunant in Monteverde for the contrast of the Galerucella luteola, the parasitic beetle that is particularly harmful to the leaves of the tree. The interventions also concern the holm oaks present in that quadrant and on which treatments against the parasitic cochineal are planned Kermes vermilio.

The treatments

This phase of treatments was preceded by a program of phytostatic checks on the health of all the trees in the quadrant and by Pruning and trimming of low or dry branches which compromised the visibility of vehicular traffic and those which, due to their height, could constitute a potential danger in case of strong winds. On the basis of these investigations, if necessary, further instrumental and altitude analyses will be carried out.

Councilor Alfonsi

“As per schedule, we have started the treatments necessary to combat the proliferation of parasites of elms and holm oaks which, in addition to damaging the trees, also create considerable discomfort for citizens. Treatment interventions that will be completed, like those recently carried out in Via di Donna Olimpia and Via Gasparri, with in-depth analyses on the state of health of the trees to secure that entire quadrant of the city” says Sabrina Alfonsi, Councilor for Agriculture, Environment and Waste Management of Rome Capital.
