The ‘2024 Anseong Matchum Namsadang Baudeogi Festival’, Anseong City’s representative festival and leading the popularization of K-culture, will be held from October 3rd to 6th at Anseong Matchum Land and Anseongcheon.
The Baudeok Festival, which began in 2001, is an event created to honor the artistic spirit of Kim Am-deok, the first female puppeteer to lead the Namsadangpae, a group of wandering entertainers during the Joseon Dynasty, and to inherit and develop the tradition of Namsadang play.
This year in particular, in order to leap forward as a global festival, CIOFF (World Council of Folklore Associations) World Folklore Performances with participation from various countries including Indonesia, Poland, and Colombia, operation of foreign supporters, a global gathering, UNESCO special performances, etc. In addition, Anseong Cultural Center Festa will be held to enhance the brand of Anseong as a cultural city, providing a unique kind of enjoyment.
The pre-festival event, Gilnori, will be held on October 2nd in the Ayang-dong area, while the opening ceremony for the Baudeok Festival will be held at Anseong Matchum Land on October 3rd. At 7 PM on the same day, the opening ceremony will be held under the theme of ‘Baudeok Meets the World’, marking the beginning of a splendid festival.
The main programs that can be seen over the four days include the Namsadang Pungmul Band performance, the flower of the festival, as well as various programs such as a national music musical, fusion performances, and a citizen participation stage. There will also be an agricultural and specialty product sales area and a food market, making it a festival full of excitement, style, and taste.
In addition, there will be citizen experiences such as traditional crafts, folk games, and wearing Hanbok, as well as free shuttle bus service and real-time traffic conditions broadcasting. Another stage for the Baudeok Festival, Anseongcheon, will host a citizen art stage, dance and busking performances, Anseongcheon music café, and Baudeok youth karaoke, in order to increase the satisfaction of citizens and tourists.
