Kenyan Bethwell Yegon won the 40th edition of the Buenos Aires Marathon today, with a time of two hours, nine minutes and four seconds. His compatriots Isaac Kipkemboi and Eliasa Kibet finished behind him, with the former just twelve seconds behind, while the latter crossed the finish line after 2 hours, 11 minutes and 37 seconds.

The first woman to reach the finish line was Ethiopian Yenenesh Tilahun Dinkesa, at 2 hours and 27 minutes, and she displaced Kenyan Rodah Jepkorir Tanui to second place and ended her winning streak. The best Argentine and South American champion was Chiara Mainetti, with 2 hours, 34 minutes and 50 seconds.

In the South American championship, Peruvian Ulises Ambrocio (2:17:43), Argentine Ignacio Erario (2:18:01) and Paraguayan Derlys Ayala (2:18:43) took the first three places.

More than 14,000 runners participated in this competition, moving through the streets of Buenos Aires, while thousands of spectators filled the sidewalks of the neighborhoods of Palermo, Recoleta and the Microcentro, among other areas.

In this sense, professional athletes and amateurs came together in this competition, which was accompanied by thousands of fans and curious onlookers who followed each stage.

Registration for the 2024 edition was a real success, with 14,500 athletes signing up (a record total for the Buenos Aires Marathon).

Of this total, almost 5,000 were foreigners and a strong presence of Brazilians was observed, representing 80% of the international participants.

One of the highlights was the specific categories for wheelchair competitors and people with visual impairments.
