The National Disaster Risk and Management Authority counted about 31 active centers in the provinces of Tolima, Cauca, Cundinamarca, Huela, Valle del Cauca, Nariño and Amazonas, according to scores recently published on the “X” platform.
The provinces of Nariño and Amazonas are located on the border with Ecuador, Peru and Brazil, which have also seen massive fires.
In total, the fires burned 10,945 hectares in Colombia.
The authorities sent eight aircraft to fight a fire that broke out in the village of Nagataima in the province of Tolima, where two people were injured and a water canal and houses were destroyed.
Colombia and its neighboring countries are experiencing the worst drought in decades, a situation experts attribute to climate change.
