Tomorrow, Tuesday, the activities of the “Folk Song Festival” will start in the city of Benghazi, as part of the activities of Benghazi, the Cultural Capital of the Islamic World 2023/2024 AD.

The head of the Popular Song Festival, Saber Omran, told the Libyan Al-Anbaa newspaper, “The festival aims to restore the popular song to its correct basic status, indicating that the participation includes a popular folkloric show, a show by the Sabha Folk Arts Troupe, and several shows from all Libyan cities. The events will also honor a number of artists who have passed away.”

Imran added, “The performances will be presented at the People’s Theatre from 9 pm, and considering the limited number of seats at the People’s Theatre, we preferred that attendance be by invitation on the first and second days.”

The festival’s artistic director, Mohammed Al-Sanousi, said: “After being suspended for many years, the festival sends a continuous artistic message to the audience, the gist of which is to preserve the popular song and the popular heritage represented in the lyrics, melody and performance,” noting that “the festival witnesses a gathering of musical groups and popular singers after years of absence.”
