’38mm White Dial/Black Dial Metal’ Released
‘Khaki Field Murphy’ 4-type lineup complete

As director Christopher Nolan’s film ‘Interstellar (2014)’ celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, Hamilton, a watch brand with 132 years of history, has released a new product to coincide with the occasion.
HAMILTON launched a new product, ‘Khaki Field Murph’, themed after the movie Interstellar on the 20th and began full-scale sales. The new product consists of two 38mm case products.
The Hamilton Khaki Field Murphy is a model that was introduced for sale as the watch of the main character Murphy (Jessica Chastain, child Mackenzie Foy) in the movie Interstellar. It was given more meaning by directly reflecting the name of the main character in the movie. Although it is just a watch, the Khaki Field Murphy has a significant role in the movie. It plays an important role in connecting the main character Cooper (Matthew McConaughey) and his daughter Murphy. In fact, Hamilton developed the Khaki Field Murphy as a watch exclusively for the movie. Later, due to requests and support from fans of the movie, a 42mm product was released for actual sale. It has the same size as the watch in the movie, and a combination of a black dial and vintage-feeling pale yellow numeral indexes. As a side note, Cooper, Murphy’s father, appears in the movie wearing the ‘Hamilton Khaki Aviation Pilot Day Date Auto (42mm)’. This product is also on sale.
The Khaki Field Murphy quickly became the brand’s bestseller. In 2022, a new product with a reduced case size of 38mm was released. Hamilton actually introduced the 38mm Murphy product in response to the continuous demand for 38mm products from movie and watch enthusiasts. It is said that many consumers cheered for Hamilton’s response that actively reflected consumer opinions. The 38~40mm case is the most preferred size among domestic watch enthusiasts (male) recently. The Khaki Field Murphy 38mm became very popular as it sold out every day as soon as it was released in Korea. It features a clean design without any unnecessary elements and goes well with various styles from casual to suit and outdoor. The index numbers use a special font to differentiate it from other Khaki Fields.
This new product changes the existing 38mm black dial to a white dial to give it a new feel. It has a slightly more vintage and lively feel. The band is combined with an 18mm black leather strap. It is described as a combination reminiscent of space where light and darkness coexist. In addition, a model that matches the original black dial 38mm with a stainless steel bracelet (metal band) was also introduced. The stainless steel band is 20mm, thicker than the leather strap (18mm). It is made of brushed three-line metal and is a folding buckle type. It has a slightly more masculine feel, but the thick band makes the case look relatively small. The 38mm Khaki Field Murphy case is 11.1mm thick.
The specifications are the same as the existing product. The movement uses the Hamilton-exclusive ‘H-10’ developed by ETA in Switzerland. The power reserve, which refers to the operating time when the watch is fully wound, is 80 hours. The power reserve of 80 hours is long compared to other mechanical watches and is considered an advantage of the Hamilton H-10 movement. The glass is made of scratch-resistant sapphire. It also has a water resistance of 10 bar (100 m). The case back (bottom of the watch) is open so that the movement of the movement can be checked. Although it is a mechanical watch, it uses a ‘self-winding’ method in which the rotor operates according to the movement of the wrist to transmit power to the inside of the watch. It is convenient because there is no need to wind the mainspring by turning the crown separately. If you just wear it diligently, you don’t have to bother setting the time every time. The existing 38mm black dial product has Eureka (one of the main lines in the movie) engraved in small Morse code on the second hand. I have not been able to confirm whether the second hand of this white dial product uses Morse code.
The price is 1.33 million won for the white dial and black leather strap product, and 1.45 million won for the black dial metal band product. With the launch of this new product, Hamilton has completed the 4-type Khaki Field Murphy lineup.
