In light of the prolonged dry season affecting Colombia, the Ministry of Mines and Energy has announced a series of temporary measures to guarantee the supply of energy and the recovery of the reservoirs of the National Interconnected System (SIN).

These preventive actions, which involve various entities in the sector, seek to address the conditions generated by the El Niño phenomenon.

The Ministry reported that monitoring of the energy situation has been intensified through the Advisory Commission for Coordination and Monitoring of the Energy Situation, with a weekly evaluation that will be increased to daily if necessary.

Among the main measures adopted are:

Delivery of surplus energy: The Energy and Gas Regulatory Commission (CREG) issued the regulatory project 701 604, which allows smaller plants and self-generators with a capacity greater than 1 MW to deliver the maximum amount of energy possible to the SIN during the next three months.

Savings campaignsThe Ministry urges citizens, as well as the commercial and industrial sectors, to strengthen energy and water saving measures.

In addition, the Minister of Mines and Energy, Andrés Camacho, highlighted on his social media the entry into operation of 34 new solar parks this year, which has multiplied the generation capacity with renewable sources by ten, constituting an alternative to hydroelectric energy. A strategic plan is also being prepared to face the climatic challenges in the national energy system.
