Tensions in Lebanon continue to dominate the scene in the region, as Israel continues its violent bombardment, which led to the death of one person, and threatens more attacks, amid international warnings and calls to calm the situation, so that Lebanon does not turn into “another Gaza.” What are the latest developments in the Lebanese scene today?
In the latest developments, one person was killed and six others were injured as a result of heavy air strikes launched by Israel today on the Lebanese Bekaa Valley.
Lebanese media reported that “Israeli aircraft targeted the Lebanese Bekaa Valley region this morning, killing one person and wounding 6 others.”
In this context, Israeli forces launched a series of intense and violent air strikes on several areas and towns in the south, northern and western Bekaa Valleys of Lebanon.
The Lebanese Ministry of Health announced that 50 people were killed and more than 300 others were injured as a result of the Israeli raids, according to Al Jazeera.
According to the information, “Israel launched more than 250 airstrikes today on the Nabatieh areas, targeting the areas and valleys located between the towns of Ansar al-Zarariyeh, Aba Jebshit al-Sharqiya, al-Numayriyeh, the outskirts of Kfar Tibnit al-Nabatiyeh al-Fawqa, Deir al-Zahrani Rumin and Azza, the outskirts of Houmin al-Fawqa, the outskirts of Nabatieh al-Fawqa, the university neighborhood, the vicinity of the Kfar Ruman al-Maidana highway, the outskirts of Yahmar al-Shaqif Arnoun, the heights of Iqlim al-Tuffah, Jabal al-Rayhan, the outskirts of the town of Sajd, the vicinity of the former Kfar Tibnit crossing, and the outskirts of Arnoun Kfar Tibnit.”
The Lebanese News Agency announced that “Israeli aircraft carried out more than 80 raids on several different areas in the country this morning within half an hour.”
In this context, the Israeli army vowed to launch more “intensive and precise raids” against Hezbollah in the near future.
The Israeli army claimed that it had called on the residents of southern Lebanon to immediately move away from the places and facilities used by Hezbollah.
Israeli army spokesman Daniel Hagari said in a speech that “Israel has detected in recent hours Hezbollah’s readiness to attack citizens of the State of Israel,” adding that “anyone who is near or inside buildings where Hezbollah is hiding weapons is required to move away from them immediately.”
Hagari continued: “In the near future, the IDF will attack targets in the Lebanon area to remove threats,” noting that “Israel has begun bombing Hezbollah sites in Lebanon after indications of its intention to fire on Israel.”
In response to a question about the possibility of a ground incursion into Lebanon, the Israeli army spokesman said, “The army will do whatever is necessary to restore security to northern Israel,” stressing that “the strikes in Lebanon will continue in the near future.”
In addition, some media outlets circulated, today, Monday, “news about the Israeli army penetrating the Lebanese landline communications network “Ogero” in the Tyre district to contact citizens and inform them of the need to evacuate their homes.”
For his part, the Director General of Ogero, Imad Kreidieh, denied what was circulated about an Israeli breach of Ogero’s landline communications network in the south.
Kreidieh explained that “our system does not receive communications from the Israeli ‘code’, and therefore if the enemy communicates via a foreign code, this is not considered a breach of the system, but rather a circumvention of the ‘international code’ system.”
He considered that “fortunately, the Lebanese switchboards are old and difficult to penetrate,” calling on citizens who receive calls of this type to report the caller’s number.
In this context, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned that “Lebanon could turn into another Gaza” after the attacks that took place this week on Hezbollah.
In an interview with the American CNN network, he was asked about Israel’s bombing of Hezbollah pagers, which led to the killing of dozens and the wounding of thousands. Guterres commented, saying, “There is a possibility of a much stronger escalation, and this is what worries me, the possibility of turning Lebanon into another Gaza. This would be a devastating tragedy for the world.”
“What is worrying about the incident is that these devices were ‘manufactured to explode now,’” he said, adding: “This type of device is intended to be a preemptive strike in a major military operation to dismantle the adversary’s communications capability, so the presence of these devices suggests a much stronger potential for escalation.”
In addition, the office of the Minister of Information in the Lebanese caretaker government announced that it “received an audio recording containing an Israeli threat to evacuate the office.”According to Al Mayadeen channel.
The Lebanese website “Al-Nashra” said, “In the context of the psychological warfare adopted by the enemy, citizens in Beirut and a number of regions received warning phone messages via the fixed network, from the Israeli enemy, asking them to evacuate their locations quickly.”
Tensions escalated after the Israeli army targeted the southern suburb of Beirut and killed Hezbollah leader Fouad Shukr in late July.
The northern Israeli front witnessed an escalation yesterday, Sunday, with Hezbollah targeting the Israeli Ramat David military base and its airport, and the Rafael military industries complex in Haifa.
