Reducing greenhouse gas emissions: Morocco’s efforts highlighted in Tunis
Tunis – Morocco’s efforts to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and adapt to the effects of climate change were highlighted on Monday in Tunis during the Regional Forum on Nationally Determined Contributions for the Middle East and North Africa (NDCs 3.0).
Speaking at the opening of this event, Amal Mellouk, from the Directorate of Climate Change, Biological Diversity and Green Economy at the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, stressed that Morocco, in accordance with the High Directives of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, was among the first countries to submit its nationally determined contribution.
She explained, in this regard, that the Kingdom hopes to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 45.5% and reach 52% of the energy mix of renewable origin by 2030.
The first day of this regional forum was marked by the launch of a call to governments in the Middle East and North Africa to develop effective national policies and strategies to address the challenges of climate change and achieve international climate goals.
This regional forum brought together representatives from many countries in the Middle East and North Africa to discuss ways to accelerate the implementation of the Paris Agreements.
