Benghazi Security Directorate revealed that “a Libyan woman was defrauded by her Egyptian husband after a 9-year marriage.”

The directorate said in a statement: “A person was arrested for forging an identity card in order to complete the marriage contract procedures with a citizen and have three children with her.”

The Directorate added: “The Criminal Investigation Department of the Benghazi Security Directorate was able to uncover the circumstances of what was referred by the Public Prosecution, including a complaint from a female citizen about being subjected to fraud by her husband and his father’s wife, as they forged evidentiary procedures that would have resulted in her children’s right to citizenship being revoked.”

The directorate said: “In response to her, she stated that she married him in 2015 and that the contract was registered in the husband’s family registry at the Civil Status Authority, as she thought, after she gave birth to three children. After she tried to register them at the Civil Status Authority, it became clear to her that her husband was of Egyptian nationality and not registered at the Authority.”

The Directorate continued: “By conducting investigations and collecting information, it was possible to identify the accused. After summoning him and questioning him, he confessed that he had forged an identity card in order to complete the marriage contract procedures with the help of his father’s wife, and that he had hidden his Egyptian nationality from his wife. Legal measures were taken against him and the case was referred to the Public Prosecution.”
