Galán has emphasized the advantages of green technologies over fossil technologies. “Renewable energies are more competitive today than fossil fuels. If we compare new fossil energy plants with new renewable energy plants, the necessary investment is low in renewables, the maintenance cost is low and, moreover, there is no replacement cost. It does not have to be subject to fuel changes,” he said.

Among the different meetings he has attended, President Iberdrola has participated, among others, in the TIME100 Climate Leadership Forum held in New York and which brings together managers of the most important companies to climate change . Likewise, he participated as part of a round table with Jennifer Granholm, Secretary of Energy of the United States, and Fatih Birol, executive director of the International Energy Agency.

Galán noted that Iberdrola’s focus on clean energy has allowed the company to grow significantly over the past two years, with investment plans focused on supporting the next energy transition, with $30 billion – nearly €27 billion – only in the US until 2030.

Galán also referred to “sustainable and predictable strategies” to guarantee investment in renewables and improve the energy transition. “We can provide the clean electricity the world needs,” he said.

In November 2023, just before COP28, Galán was included in the inaugural TIME100 Climate list, which recognizes the 100 most innovative leaders taking industrial climate action.

Committed to energy change
