Judge orders new suspension after sudden reactivation of X in Brazil

A judge of the Supreme Federal Court of Brazil ordered this Thursday to la red social X suspending access to its application again, following some updates that allowed it to bypass the blockade in the South American country.

If the platform refuses to comply with this new order, it will be subject to a daily fine of more than $900,000.

“The platform of the tycoon Elon Musk must immediately suspend the use of its new accesses (…) or accept a penalty of a daily fine of 5 million reais (approximately $913,000),” stated the court order by Judge Alexandre de Moraes.

Let’s remember that a couple of days ago, users in Brazil again had access to X After a series of updates and modifications on the platform to circumvent the government-imposed blockade, allowing one of its largest markets to regain connectivity.

The suspension of X, which came into effect on August 30 by order of the Supreme Federal Court (STF)was due to accusations of failing to control disinformation and disobeying court orders, following a request to suspend some user accounts that allegedly promoted hate and far-right speech.

Following this instruction and decree promoted by a judge, Elon Musk sent a message to his followers about the suspension of X in that South American country.

Freedom of expression is the basis of democracy and an unelected pseudo-judge in Brazil is destroying it for political purposes,” the tycoon said.

It is not yet known what measures the platform may take following this new resolution.
