An Egyptian court issued a decision on Sunday to sentence a person to five years in prison, on charges of offering his son for sale on the social networking site “Facebook”, in the Oseem area in Giza Governorate.

The Cairo Criminal Court decided, in its session on Sunday, to impose a fine of 100,000 pounds on the accused.

The investigations of the Egyptian Public Prosecution revealed in Case No. 9066 of 2024, Oseem Felonies, that the accused, “Sayed. H.”, had committed human trafficking by offering his child for sale on the social networking site “Facebook,” due to his financial crisis, so he turned to selling his son, according to what local media reported.

After legalizing the procedures, he was arrested by the Internet Investigations Department, and when confronted, he admitted to committing the incident.

The Egyptian legislator defined human trafficking in Law No. 64 of 2010 on Combating Human Trafficking as: “Anyone who deals in any way with a natural person, including selling, offering, buying, promising, using, transporting, delivering, sheltering or receiving, whether within the country or across its national borders, shall be considered to have committed the crime of human trafficking if this is done by using force or violence or threatening to do so, or by kidnapping, fraud, deception, or exploiting authority or exploiting a state of weakness or need, or promising to give or receive sums of money or benefits in exchange for obtaining the consent of a person to traffic in another person over whom he has control – all of this – if the dealing is for the purpose of exploitation, whatever its form, including exploitation in prostitution and other forms of sexual exploitation, and the exploitation of children in this, and in pornographic materials or forced labor or service, or slavery or practices similar to slavery or servitude, or begging or the removal of human organs or human tissues or part thereof.”
