The health secrets of an elderly couple who maintain muscular bodies in their 80s are attracting attention on social networking services (SNS).
On the 20th (local time), the British Daily Mail introduced the secrets to maintaining health of former Canadian rugby player Phil McKenzie’s grandparents along with a video of their exercise routine.
MacKenzie currently has about 500,000 followers on Instagram and 870,000 followers on TikTok. MacKenzie posted a video of her grandparents’ exercise routine on social media, which received a lot of attention, with over 20 million views.
MacKenzie revealed that her grandfather’s secret to good health was his focus on strength training. “He does 500 push-ups three times a week,” MacKenzie said.
In one video, Mackenzie showed off her grandfather doing some strength training. In the video, Mackenzie’s grandfather is seen doing some intense strength training with his grandson, lifting weights. He doesn’t look like he’s behind his grandson at all, and he shows off his solid physique that he’s built from working out.
MacKenzie also mentioned that her grandfather’s secret to staying healthy was always eating small amounts of food. “For as long as I can remember, my grandfather has been practicing calorie restriction,” MacKenzie explained.
Moving around a lot is also a key to good health. “I’ve never met anyone who values the ability to move as much as my grandfather did,” MacKenzie said. “At one point, he hated going to bed more than anything.”
“My grandfather constantly reminded me that the moment I stop moving is the moment I stop living,” he said.
MacKenzie’s grandmother is also known to live a healthy life by getting enough sleep, avoiding processed foods, and walking as much as possible.
“It’s amazing how easily a grandmother can keep up with her grandchildren at a walking pace,” MacKenzie said. “It’s not easy to maintain that fast pace for so long.”
In the released footage, MacKenzie’s grandmother is seen running on a treadmill and leisurely climbing a flight of stairs.
“My grandparents always had regular bedtimes and wake-up times,” said MacKenzie. “If you follow the lifestyle of your grandparents, you can live a healthy life even in your 80s.”
