In the Stuttgart area there are many so-called hidden champions, successful small specialist companies. One of them has now run into difficulties.

Since 1990, the company Brecht GmbH has been producing special parts made of metal and plastic for customers in mechanical engineering, measurement technology and, for several years now, medical technology. Now the medium-sized company in Wannweil, Baden-Württemberg, has run into difficulties and has filed for bankruptcy, as the “Reutlinger Generalanzeiger” reports.

According to the report, “20 employees are affected by the new situation.” However, the lawyer appointed as insolvency administrator, Jürgen Sulz, told the newspaper that the company had a good name. The insolvency administrator was confident that the business would find a buyer and be able to continue in the long term. Sulz did not comment on the reasons for the company’s difficulties.

The company says it has manufactured and delivered more than a million special parts since its inception. Brecht GmbH has several CNC milling machines for producing metal parts and 3D printers for producing plastic elements that are used in medical devices.

The company’s factory halls also house a high-precision water jet cutting system, which, according to the “Reutlinger Generalanzeiger”, only a few other companies in the region have. The Stuttgart area is known for its many so-called hidden champions, small specialist companies that are among the world leaders in their fields.
