Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra: The CRDH holds its 6th ordinary meeting

This meeting, which takes place in application of the provisions of law 76.15 relating to the reorganization of the National Human Rights Council (CNDH) and article 36 of its internal regulations, was an opportunity to debate issues relating to the different areas linked to human rights at the regional level.

The agenda of this ordinary meeting includes the presentation and examination of the annual report of the CRDH in 2022 and the reports of the three standing committees of the said Commission, namely the standing committee responsible for the protection of human rights, the standing committee responsible for the promotion of human rights and the standing committee responsible for monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of human rights in regional policies and programs.

On this occasion, emphasis was placed on the CRDH’s interventions in the region concerning the strengthening of categorical rights, the reception and processing of complaints and the spontaneous monitoring of possible human rights violations.

A total of 90 complaints and requests were received by the CRDH, specifies the annual report of the said Commission, noting that the Permanent Commission for the Protection of Human Rights processed 63 complaints, or 70% of those filed.

The CRDH of Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra ensured that it fully assumed its missions, by receiving some 260 users, it was indicated.

As for the promotion of economic, social, cultural and environmental rights, the CRDH organized a series of awareness-raising activities covering activities related to cultural rights (5 activities), environmental rights (5), the right to development (3), the right to education (13), categorical rights (7) and the rights of migrants (5), as well as an activity related to workers’ rights, according to the report.

In a speech for the occasion, the president of the Regional Human Rights Commission, Taoufik Berdiji, stressed that this meeting has a special character, in the sense that it reflects the CRDH’s willingness to continue its actions after the Covid-19 pandemic.

In this wake, Mr. Berdiji welcomed the efforts made by the members of the Commission to support the action of the permanent committees of the CRDH in an optimal manner, in terms of protection and strengthening of human rights, as well as in terms of monitoring the effectiveness of rights in public policies and regional programs.

The CRDH will continue to fully assume its missions by strengthening the fight against all forms of human rights violations and organizing activities aimed at promoting the culture of human rights, in accordance with the strategic orientations of the CNDH and the specificities of the region, he assured.
