Mr. Mayara meets in Malabo with the President of the Equatorial Guinean Senate

During this meeting, held in the presence of the Moroccan ambassador to Malabo, Ghoulam Maichane, the two parties discussed issues of common interest, including the strengthening of bilateral and parliamentary cooperation.

On this occasion, Mrs. Teresa Efua Asangono welcomed the quality of relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and Equatorial Guinea, as well as the close fraternal ties uniting the two countries.

Recalling the secular and strategic nature of Moroccan-Equatorial Guinean relations, she praised the efforts of Morocco, under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, to strengthen cooperation with Equatorial Guinea.

The exemplary cooperation between the two countries concerns several areas, including trade, defense, aviation, tourism and higher education, she said, affirming in this sense that the holding of the next Joint Commission will allow examining the means to further develop bilateral relations.

At the parliamentary level, Ms. Teresa Efua Asangono recalled that the signing in 2022 of a Memorandum of Understanding establishing cooperation and consultation mechanisms reflects the importance that the two chambers attach to strengthening their cooperation as well as their commitment to strengthening parliamentary dialogue and consultation.

For his part, Mr. Mayara affirmed that the relations between the two countries are historical and fraternal, stressing that Morocco under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI attaches particular interest to the development of cooperation with Equatorial Guinea.

In this regard, he recalled the official visit made by His Majesty the King to Equatorial Guinea in April 2009, during which the legal arsenal of relations between the two countries was strengthened, through the signing of a set of agreements concerning various areas such as agriculture, hydrocarbons, port management and finance.

Highlighting the depth of Moroccan-Equatorial Guinean ties, the President of the House of Advisors underlined Equatorial Guinea’s constant support for the territorial integrity of the Kingdom, as well as the opening of a Consulate General in Dakhla in 2020.

Mr. Mayara also noted the importance of strengthening communication and strategic coordination between the two countries in various multilateral fora, such as the African Union (AU) and the United Nations.

On the parliamentary side, he noted that parliamentary diplomacy is of crucial importance in strengthening relations between the two countries, with a view to deepening understanding and dialogue between representatives of the peoples of the two countries, and to bring together and unify visions and points of view on many bilateral and multilateral issues.

After highlighting the Moroccan parliamentary experience and the attributions of the House of Advisors, Mr. Mayara underlined the role of the second chamber through its economic component, in supporting the economic partnership between the two countries and the development of common economic projects.

The President of the House of Advisors also had talks with the President of the House of Deputies, Salomón Nguema Owono, during which he reiterated the commitment of the Parliament of the Kingdom of Morocco to further consolidate cooperation ties with the Equatorial Guinean Parliament in the service of the higher interests of both countries.

The Moroccan delegation includes in particular Messrs. Noureddine Soulaik, president of the Moroccan Labor Union group and Mohamed El Amouri, member of the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises group.

After this two-day visit, Mr. Mayara will chair the 11th consultation meeting of the Association of Senates, Chouras and Equivalent Councils of Africa and the Arab World (ASSECAA) which will be held on September 26 and 27 in Malabo.
