jpnn.com – JAKARTA – The All-Indonesian Trade Union Confederation (KSPSI) Pembaruan and the Sabang Merauke Circle (SMC) held a discussion with the theme ‘Land for the People’ at the Ambhara Hotel, Jakarta, Tuesday (24/9) afternoon.

In the discussion, activists admitted to being concerned about the recent conditions. They suspect that there has been a case of structured, systematic, and massive (TSM) land grabbing.

“The perpetrators, powerful businessmen or oligarchs, work together with the authorities,” said the General Chair of the Agrarian Reform Movement Alliance (AGRA) Moh. Ali.

According to Moh. Ali, recently there has also been an impression that the state has arbitrarily taken over customary land that has been inhabited by residents for hundreds of years on the grounds that residents do not have legal documents.

Activist Said Didu agreed with Moh Ali’s view. He suspected that the oligarchy was robbing people’s land in various ways. One of them was by determining the status of land in an area as a National Strategic Project (PSN).

Furthermore, with PSN status, entrepreneurs then work together with local authorities to pressure people to sell their land at very low prices.

“This happened in Rempang (Kepri), PIK 2 (Tangerang), even in IKN (East Kalimantan),” said Said Didu.

Didu admitted to being surprised by the government’s attitude in pushing aside local residents who had lived in an area for decades. Then handing over the existing land to businessmen who came from who knows where, controlling it for up to 190 years.

Activists are concerned about the tendency for people’s land to be seized in a structured, systematic and massive manner.
