The first major derby of this year’s Premier League at the “Etihad” did not produce a winner, but it delivered many thrills, with Arsenal playing with 10 men since the first half and losing the victory in the 98th minute.
Stones’ goal in stoppage time shaped the final score to 2-2 against an Arsenal that lost Rodri to injury very early on (the Spaniard left the pitch in the 20th minute, raising fears of damage to his knee), while in stoppage time of the first half, they were reduced to 10 players due to Trossard’s dismissal with a second yellow card (45+8′).
Under these circumstances, they “fortified” themselves in defense in the second half, failed to mount attacks towards Ederson’s goal, but despite that, they held on to the big “away” victory until the 90’+7. Stones, who had come on as a substitute just 20 minutes earlier, scored with a shot to make it 2-2.
City took the lead early with Haaland, marking the Norwegian’s tenth goal and his 100th for the “Citizens,” but Mikel Arteta’s “steel” team managed to turn things around, first with Kalafiori in the 22nd minute and later in stoppage time of the first half with Gabriel.
For City, it was their first draw in the Premier League after four consecutive wins, and also their second successive “stumble” at the same ground, following the 0-0 against Inter in the Champions League opener.
Arsenal remains unbeaten, but with one more draw and three wins.
