The program of this three-day cultural event, organized by the House of Poetry of Tetouan in coordination with the Regional Directorate of Oriental Culture, includes poetry evenings and plastic arts workshops, as well as musical performances.

The opening ceremony, in which cultural and community actors participated, was marked by the tribute paid to the Moroccan poet Saïd Akoudad, the reading of poems in Amazigh by poets from the region who were able to captivate the imagination and attention of the audience present, also rewarded with a musical performance by the group “Azghangan Band”.

On this occasion, the director of the House of Poetry of Tetouan, Mokhlis Sghir, stressed, in a statement to MAP, that the organization of this meeting on the beach of Nador comes after the previous editions which took place in several coastal cities of the Kingdom, and this since the creation of the House of Poetry in Tetouan in the spring of 2016.

This event, he added, aims to promote the opening of summer spaces and the celebration of poetry in the open air, in addition to bringing this art and this form of cultural expression closer to all Moroccans.

According to Mr. Sghir, what distinguishes this edition in the Oriental region, after a previous event in Saïdia, is that it celebrates Amazigh poetry through the homage paid to one of the figures of Moroccan poetry in the city of Nador.

For his part, the representative of the Provincial Directorate of Culture in Nador, Anas Lamnidi, stressed the importance of this poetic event which is taking place for the first time in this city, noting that it constitutes an opportunity to become familiar with the art of poetry and know its characteristics, in particular Amazigh poetry, as well as to meet the poets of the region.

The program of the 6th edition of “Meters of Poetry” includes the organization of the Night of Arab Poetry and the signing of two collections of poetry, namely “As if I was going to war” by the poet Jamal Azraghid and “I will sing mawali” by the poet Yassin Baabsalam, who recently won first place in the Sharjah Prize for Artistic Creativity, in addition to organizing a reading meeting with the poet Said Akoudad.

According to its initiators, “Les Mètres de la poésie” is an annual event organized during the summer on one of the Kingdom’s beaches, welcoming poets and writers to spread the values of creativity and aesthetics, and to bring poetry and literature closer to vacationers and visitors to the region.
