Benghazi hosts the third festival of popular songs

The third session of the Benghazi Festival for Popular Song, which bears the name of the late artist “Ahmeida Derna” in honor of his rich artistic career, was opened.

The head of the Musicians Syndicate, Saber Mahmoud Al-Ubaybi, expressed his “pride in holding this festival, which reflects a clear interest in the Libyan musical heritage,” stressing “the importance of this session in reviving the Libyan folk song, and that it is an important step in preserving the cultural heritage.”

The Minister of Culture and Arts in the Libyan government assigned by the House of Representatives, Saliha Al-Drouqi, confirmed “the ministry’s full support for such heritage initiatives, noting their importance in strengthening the national identity and preserving the Libyan cultural heritage,” adding “that this festival is the culmination of the great efforts made by the ministry to support the cultural and artistic movement in Libya,” according to the Wal Agency.

The ceremony witnessed the honoring of a group of pioneers of Libyan folk songs, with the announcement of honoring four pioneers of the song during the days of the festival. The ceremony concluded with distinctive folk singing performances presented by a group of the most prominent folk artists from various Libyan cities, amidst great interaction from the audience who enjoyed the wonderful performance of the artists.

The festival is scheduled to last for four days, and will include a variety of cultural and artistic events, including poetry evenings, workshops on music and heritage, and various artistic performances. The festival will also witness the organization of seminars and discussion groups on Libyan folk songs and their impact on society.
