“AS Roma announces that its general director Lina Souloukou has submitted her resignation. We thank Lisa for her commitment during a particularly critical phase for the club and wish her the best in her future professional challenges,” said the Roma statement, published a few hours before the match against Udinese for the 5th matchday of Serie A.

“The owners remain fully focused on the development and success of Roma, constantly keeping in mind the values that make our club so special,” concluded the statement released on Sunday morning.

A former executive at Olympiakos, Lina Souloukou was appointed head of Roma in April 2023. According to the Italian press, she had been suspended by the club’s American owners, which may have triggered her resignation.

Revolt

The director was the target of a revolt from the fans, some of whom had planned to go on a cheering strike this Sunday, following the announcement of the firing of former emblematic player Daniele De Rossi after just four matches.

Relations between De Rossi and Souloukou significantly deteriorated over the summer, during a transfer window where the coach had no say in certain arrivals. De Rossi was replaced by Croatian Ivan Juric, who spent the last three seasons at the helm of Torino.
