The Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province held a budget policy council with the People Power Party. Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province Governor Kim Kwan-young is continuing his aggressive steps to bring forward the ‘Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province Era’.
At the People Power Party-Honam Region Budget Policy Council meeting held at the National Assembly on the 25th, Governor Kim emphasized the achievements made by Jeollabuk-do since the launch of the Yoon Seok-yeol government and requested the People Power Party’s active cooperation in securing budgets for key projects and resolving pending issues.
On this day, the People Power Party held a budget policy council with the North Jeolla Special Self-Governing Province, Gwangju Metropolitan City, and South Jeolla Province, and discussed key issues for securing the 2025 national budget and regional development.
This meeting was an important venue for balanced regional development, and was attended by many of the People Power Party’s leaders, including floor leader Choo Kyung-ho, former North Jeolla Province Party Chairperson Cho Bae-sook, and Budget and Accounts Committee Secretary Koo Ja-geun. Local government heads from each region also participated and held in-depth discussions.
Governor Kim Kwan-young began his speech at this meeting by requesting strong support for the growth of Jeollabuk-do.
Governor Kim said, “Since the launch of the Yoon Seok-yeol government, we have achieved remarkable results, including attracting 10.2 trillion won in investment to Saemangeum, launching the North Jeolla Special Self-Governing Province, and designating it as an opportunity development special zone,” and expressed his gratitude, saying, “This is thanks to the cooperation of the People Power Party.”
Governor Kim continued, “Core projects such as internal development of Saemangeum and creation of environmental and ecological land are facing difficulties due to budget shortages. I hope that together with the People Power Party, we can open an era of success for not only Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province but also Saemangeum,” and requested active support from the ruling party.
In addition, he stated, “As the revision of the Special Act on Metropolitan Area Transportation Management was suggested and discussed at the VIP People’s Livelihood Discussion on July 18, we request the People Power Party’s active cooperation to resolve this urgent issue.”
In response, Floor Leader Choo Kyung-ho said, “There are times when the budget is always insufficient and regional desires and new projects are not reflected, but I will work to secure a budget that will produce results in the National Assembly,” and “Since the People Power Party is absolutely short on lawmakers from Honam, I will work hard to secure a budget for Honam in cooperation with the Policy Committee Chairperson, the Budget and Accounts Committee Secretary, etc.”
Cho Bae-sook, the party leader, added, “We will work closely with the central party to ensure that the budget for Saemangeum SOC, secondary batteries, Nung Life Science, and culture and tourism, which have not been reflected in the budget, is implemented at the National Assembly’s budget increase stage.”
At this budget policy council meeting, Jeonbuk Autonomous Province actively proposed budget support for key projects such as ▲Saemangeum internal development and creation of environmental and ecological land ▲establishment of International Taekwondo Academy ▲construction of National Modu Arts Complex ▲establishment of Animal Pharmaceutical Clinical Trial Center, and discussed cooperation plans for major pending issues such as ▲revision of Special Act on Metropolitan Area Transportation Management ▲financial conversion of Saemangeum New Port hinterland area.
This meeting is the start of an all-out battle for the National Assembly deliberation stage to secure the 25-year national budget for Jeonbuk Autonomous Province, and the province plans to carry out all-out activities to secure the budget for key projects with the Ministry of Strategy and Finance and the National Assembly.
