Park Woong-doo, the candidate for the by-election for the governor of Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do, from the Fatherland Innovation Party, held an election campaign committee inauguration ceremony at the Gokseong-eup election office on the 25th and resolved to win the election.

Candidate Park Woong-doo formed an election campaign committee with Shin Jang-sik, the standing general election campaign committee chairman, and co-chairs Hong Gyeong-baek, Seol Dan-sook, and Yoon So-ha, election campaign committee members, standing sponsorship committee chairmen, and co-sponsorship committee chairs.

Ten members of the National Assembly, including Rep. Kang Kyung-sook of the Democratic Party of Korea (from Okwa-myeon, Gokseong), organized the ‘Gokseong National Assembly Civil Service Office’ in charge of each of the 11 towns and townships in Gokseong County and pledged to take an interest in the continued development of Gokseong and local politics.

Representative Cho Kuk appealed for support at this event, saying, “The Cho Kuk Innovation Party will become another child of Honam. Aren’t two children better than one?” and “We will compete (with the Democratic Party) to see who is more filial and who is a more filial son.”

He continued, “If we compete, voters’ interest will increase and innovation in local politics will be brought forward,” and cheered on candidate Park, saying, “The late President Kim Dae-jung’s true intention was to carefully examine policies, pledges, qualifications, and abilities before voting.”

Candidate Park Woong-doo said, “Farmers are suffering and exhausted due to the rice planthopper problem and the high prices of agricultural products,” and added, “This by-election will be an opportunity to give farmers a little rain.”

He emphasized, “I will become an honest and responsible governor who responds to the people’s passionate voices that say, ‘It’s time for a change,’” and “I will set the future of Gokseong-gun straight.”

The October 16 Gokseong County Governor by-election will be a five-way race between the Democratic Party of Korea’s Cho Sang-rae, the Innovation Party’s Park Woong-doo, the People Power Party’s Choi Bong-ui, and independent candidates Lee Seong-ro and Jeong Hwan-dae.

The by-election will begin on October 3rd after two days of candidate registration starting on the 26th. Early voting will be held on October 10th and 11th, and the actual voting will be held on the 16th.
