/ Mark Regev, senior advisor to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Christiane Amanpour, said that “Israel intends for the Palestinians to govern themselves but without the ability to threaten it.”

“The idea is to find a formula in which the Palestinians can govern themselves without being in a position to threaten Israel, and I think that this is the formula that can help us move forward and find solutions that will be good for the Israelis, and good for the Palestinians as well,” Regev told CNN.

Commenting on Netanyahu’s statements at a press conference on Thursday that Israel “must control the security of all the territories west of the Jordan River,” Regev said Netanyahu “has repeatedly said that the Palestinians must have full authority to govern themselves, and that no force threatens Israel,” and stressed that Israel has always prioritized security and discussed demilitarization, especially after the October 7 attack.

“If the Palestinians really want to move forward with Israel, I think they have to be willing to understand these concerns, they are legitimate concerns, and the idea that any areas adjacent to Israel should provide arrangements that allow Israel to defend itself,” he continued.

Following Netanyahu’s clear rejection of a post-war Palestinian state, a source told CNN that Netanyahu made it clear to US President Joe Biden during a phone call on Friday that his remarks were not intended to prevent the establishment of a Palestinian state in any way.
