Bolivia denounces alleged ‘destabilization’ by Evo Morales to the UN

In light of the recent events and mobilizations that have taken place in Bolivia, Celinda Sonathe South American country’s foreign minister, sent a letter to the United Nations Organization (UN) to denounce alleged acts of destabilization by Evo Morales.

“The Bolivian State firmly recognizes and respects the right to protest and free public demonstration (…) however, from our perspective we observe a threat and siege of a violent march led by former president Evo Morales which is heading towards the city of La Paz,” the minister indicated in her letter.

According to the Bolivian Foreign Ministry, the former president’s main objective is to interrupt the current constitutional mandate by a possible advance in the possible national elections and thus, he can consecrate a new candidacy even though his constitution does not allow it.

“Our Government has a firm commitment to democracyrespect for human rights and is convinced that dialogue is the best way to address differences,” said the letter sent to the UN Secretary General.

Let us remember that in recent weeks, there have been a series of mobilizations by followers of Evo Morales to demand the president, Luis Arce, to shorten his term, in addition to other demands regarding the current situation in the South American country.

In addition to this, Morales accused at the time that the attempted coup d’état orchestrated by the military insurgents was a kind of “setup” prepared by the president, Arce himself also believes that the march promoted by Morales has the intention of promoting a “coup d’état” and that the head of the Senate, Andrónico Rodríguez, assumes the Presidency of the country.
