16 District Councils of the Electoral Institute close activities

Los District Councils of the Electoral Institute of Mexico City (IECM), installed on the occasion of the electoral process last year, they began to close their activities, due to the lack of means of appeal in electoral courts.

These are collegiate bodies of temporary character that operate during the electoral processes, with decision-making powers in the territorial area that corresponds to them.

He IECM reported that the District Councils 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 13, 16, 17, 19, 21, 27, 28, 29, 30 and 31 held regular sessions in which they declared the conclusion of their activities.

The capital body detailed that according to article 115 of the Code of Institutions and Electoral Procedures of Mexico City, the district councils are collegiate bodies They are temporary in nature and only operate during electoral processes, so their closing dates are staggered.

These councils were installed on February 9, which were made up of a presidency, six councilors, emanating from a call citizen, one representation for each political party or candidate without a party and one secretary, in charge of the secretary of the decentralized body.

Among its responsibilities is to monitor the approval of the electoral sections within the district area to install special polling stations, as well as the number and location of polling stations in accordance with applicable regulations.

In addition to following up on the procedure for drawing lots for polling station officials and their training; as well as the installation of the Polling Station Boards and order the delivery of electoral documentation and materials to the Presidents of the Polling Station Boards.

They were also in charge of receiving the electoral packages and documentation related to the elections of Head of Governmentdeputies, mayors and councillors; carry out the computation of the election of majority deputies, declare the validity of the election and deliver the corresponding certificate to candidates with the highest number of votes.

In the case of the districts that are the capitals of the demarcation, the computation of each territorial jurisdiction. Also, perform the district computation of the votes received in the elections of the Head of Government, mayors, Councillors and Deputies of proportional representation, among other powers.

The Ordinary Local Electoral Process 2023-2024 had 396 district councilors, owners and substitutes, in the 33 decentralized bodies of the capital’s Electoral Institute.
