BOLZANO. “A gesture of unprecedented gravity that we cannot and must not tolerate within our schools, places that must remain safe and protected for our young people.” This is what the provincial councilor for education Marco Galateo said about the bullying episode at the Ritz high school in Merano.
A student was beaten by other young people in the school courtyard during recess. The boy was rescued by the janitor who found him on the ground with swollen lips and a blood-soaked handkerchief in his hands. According to an initial reconstruction, the young man was attacked while sitting and listening to music with headphones. The beating was apparently carried out by about ten other boys. The father, who was alerted by the school and took his son to the hospital, filed a complaint with the police.
“The Province of Bolzano, always at the forefront in the fight against bullying, strongly reaffirms its commitment to combating all forms of violence among children. We will continue to work to strengthen prevention programs, but at the same time we will not give discounts to those who are guilty of such vile acts”, concluded Councilor Galateo who expressed solidarity with the family.
