The mayor of Guayaquil, Aquiles Alvarez, assured that the complaint filed by the Government of Daniel Noboa against a company of his family for alleged fuel smuggling ““It is a distracting montage without any basis.”
Alvarez’s statement came on the afternoon of this Friday, July 12, 2024, one day after the Executive filed the complaint with the Prosecutor’s Office. “They have messed with my family, without any need or connection, of course, to do so and that is low,” he reacted in a video posted on his social network account X.

Without going into further details about the operation of the company, which is being pointed out by the Government, Alvarez reminded President Daniel Noboa and his ministers that ““Power is ephemeral, it does not last forever.”
He considered that “political maturity must always prevail” and that he already knew “that such an invention was coming.”
The solidarity of Aguiñaga and Pabón
On social media, Alvarez received expressions of solidarity from her fellow members Marcela Aguiñaga and Paola Pabón, prefects of Guayas and Pichincha, in that order.“Strength Achilles, the truth always comes to light, let nothing distract you from the great mission of transforming the city. Guayaquil only deserves progress!” wrote Aguiñaga in X.
Pabón praised the management of the Mayor of Guayaquil. According to the Government’s complaint, there is documentary evidence, recordings and testimonies that would reveal the existence of an organized network of irregular fuel trade, which would involve the Copedesa marketing company, of which Alvarez is a shareholder.
