Germany’s Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development announced today that it will provide 70 million euros ($78 million) to Ukraine to support the supply of heating and electricity resources during the winter, DPA reported.
The funds will be used to supply Ukrainian cities and municipalities with small thermal power plants, boiler systems, generators and solar energy systems, the ministry announced after a meeting of the budget committee of the parliament.
Ukraine’s Energy Ministry said it expects significant power outages this winter despite repair efforts (of the power grid).
“Russia’s attacks on energy supplies are aimed at exhausting and forcing Ukrainians to leave their homes,” said Svenya Shultze, Minister of Economic Cooperation and Development. “We are supporting Ukraine in restoring its electricity supplies in a decentralized manner so that Russia cannot destroy them so easily,” Schulze added.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said today that Russia has destroyed all of Ukraine’s thermal power plants and “a large part” of the country’s hydroelectric plants. In total, Russia has damaged 80 percent of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, Zelensky said, quoted by BTA.
