(ANSA) – ROME, SEPTEMBER 26 – SMEs are struggling to find staff with high levels of green skills: there is a shortage of over 828,300, equal to 51.9% of the total workforce required with these characteristics (almost one million and 600 thousand, 2023 data), in particular workers with expertise in energy saving and reducing environmental impact. This is what emerges from a survey presented by Confartigianato during the ‘Energies and Transition Confartigianato High School’ convention, underway in Chia (Cagliari). According to the Confartigianato study, the need for staff with green skills is higher among small businesses: it concerns 45.8% of the workers required, over ten points more than the 35% of medium-large businesses. But the shortage of personnel also affects Europe more generally: 38.9% of EU SMEs indicate that the lack of green skills prevents the company from being more environmentally sustainable, with an accentuation for France (44.9%) and Italy (42.9%) compared to Germany (39.4%) and Spain (34.8%). “We cannot afford to leave hundreds of thousands of jobs uncovered”, underlines Marco Granelli, president of Confartigianato Imprese. “The energy and environmental transition – he continues – is also achieved with new training policies, with a closer relationship between schools and companies, to prepare young people to enter the world of work with the right skills and to respond to the new needs of companies increasingly oriented towards environmental protection”.
