Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu today reiterated his promise to return to their homes the tens of thousands of Israelis evacuated from the country’s northern border areas. He said the Iran-backed Hezbollah group had been hit harder than he could have imagined, Reuters reported.

“I cannot explain in detail everything we are doing, but I can tell you one thing: We are determined to return our residents in the northern part of the country safely to their homes,” he said in a short video message. However, Netanyahu did not comment on the US-led efforts to negotiate a ceasefire agreement, BTA reported.

Meanwhile, Hezbollah fired dozens of rockets into Israel today, including a long-range projectile that set off air raid sirens in Tel Aviv and central Israel, the Associated Press reported.

Israel said it intercepted the projectile and there were no reports of casualties or damage. It was the deepest blow on the territory of Israel so far.

The Hezbollah group said it fired a ballistic missile at the headquarters of Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency, which it says was responsible for the killings of its top leaders. Israel later said it had struck the site in southern Lebanon from which the missile was fired.
