Olympiacos begins its European journey for this season next Thursday (26/9, 22:00) and will travel to France, where it will face Lyon for the first matchday of the League Phase of the Europa League.
The “Red and Whites” enter the competition as the winners of last season’s Conference League, and to10.gr chronicles how much the Piraeus team has changed compared to last year’s opening match in the same tournament, which was the start of a journey that concluded on the night of May 29 with a historic victory against Fiorentina.
The journey to the top of Europe began a year ago when they hosted Freiburg at “Georgios Karaiskakis” (lost 3-2), with Paschalakis, Rodinei, Retsos, Ortega, Masouras, Esse, and El Kaabi starting in the lineup, while Jolakis and Doi were on the bench.
Furthermore, it is important to note that in January Olympiacos made three changes to its European list, adding David Carmo, Chiquinho, and Andre Orta, which transformed the entire team and wrote the most “golden” page in the history of Greek football, as the Piraeus team claimed the Europa Conference League at the Opap Arena.
Two of the three players remained with the team and are, of course, both in this year’s European list of José Luis Mendilibar and, barring any unforeseen events, will be in the starting lineup for the match against Lyon in France.
