VIGO CAVEDINE. In the heart of spring, it was the sighting of a wolf in via Monte Stivo that shook the tranquility of Vigo Cavedine. In the past few days, three bear cubs have been seen in the Coste area, a few hundred meters from the center of the town in the Valle dei Laghi, a few kilometers from Trento.
A local resident then filmed the three bears’ run with his smartphone, following the animals with his car, and then uploaded the video to social media: beyond the behavior that certainly did not respect the highway code, many wondered whether the driver had purposely chased the bears, who then disappeared into the nearby countryside, or whether the three animals had instead appeared on the route that the fourth protagonist of the story was taking towards his destination, an eventuality that would have made it practically inevitable that the bears and the car would have shared part of the route.
If the video disappeared from social media platforms after a few hours, it is not known whether it was deleted by the user himself or removed by the administrator of the group “Sei di Vigo Cavedine se”, the wave of sharing on messaging apps has certainly not subsided: among groups and individuals who have repeatedly re-broadcast the video to their contacts, few in Valle dei Laghi (and not only) have not come across those approximately 20 seconds of recording.
In any case, it was the same person who validated the sighting. mayor of Vigo Cavedine, who issued a warning to the population in this regard published on the notice board and website of the Municipality. Confirming the report received by the municipality of the sighting «of bears in the area of Coasts of Vigo Cavedine, in the area of Monte Gaggio di Cavedine and in the upper area of the town of Stravino“, the mayor reported that the Forestry Service and the Wildlife Service of the Autonomous Province of Trento have also been informed of the situation “with whom – he added – we are in contact and who are monitoring the situation”.
Of concern are the places where the bears have appeared, the destination of numerous walks, which are also very popular in this period: from the Via Crucis that goes up towards the church of Santa Maria Ausiliatrice to the various little roads that lead to Passo S. Udalrico.
The public is advised to exercise the utmost caution when visiting these areas, with a particular recommendation to owners of pets to keep them on a leash.
«In case of further sightings – concludes the notice – it is recommended to inform the Single Emergency Center 112, so that the operators can carry out all the necessary procedures”.
On the operational front, meanwhile, in the three areas where the sightings were made (the first, dating back to a few days ago, was reported on Gaggio, a relief that divides the Cavedine valley from the lake of the same name and the Sarche plain) yellow signs will be placed to warn of the possible presence of the plantigrades.
