Al-Koni welcomes reaching an agreement on the Central Bank of Libya

Deputy of the Presidential Council, Musa Al-Koni, welcomed the agreement reached by representatives of the House of Representatives and the Supreme Council of State today, Wednesday, regarding the appointment of a new governor of the Central Bank of Libya and his deputy.

Al-Koni stressed that maintaining the unity of the bank and its smooth and professional performance of its duties contributes to the stability of the country’s economic situation, and that the agreement will address the state of political deadlock and consensus between the two councils according to the political agreement to move forward towards the elections.

The United Nations Support Mission in Libya announced that the representative of the House of Representatives and the Supreme Council of State had reached a settlement regarding the appointment of a new leadership for the Central Bank of Libya.

This came at the conclusion of a new round of consultations facilitated by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya at its headquarters in Tripoli, to address the crisis of the Central Bank of Libya.

The mission stated in a statement that the two parties had initialed an agreement on the procedures, criteria and timetables for appointing a governor, deputy governor and board of directors for the Central Bank of Libya, in accordance with the provisions of the Libyan Political Agreement.

The United Nations mission noted that it will host a signing ceremony tomorrow, Thursday, in the presence of a number of representatives of diplomatic missions in Libya.
