Israel, which drew a line in response to the international community’s demand for a ceasefire, conducted virtual maneuver training in the border area of Lebanon. In fact, it appears to be training in preparation for ground warfare.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) issued a statement on the 26th (local time) and said, “The training of the 7th Brigade Combat Team led by the Ground Forces Training Center was completed this morning.”

The training was conducted in a mountainous area several kilometers from the Lebanese border. “The troops trained for maneuver and combat,” the IDF explained.

In particular, the explanation is, “During the training period, we strengthened our operational and logistical capabilities for various combat scenarios within the northern enemy territory.” This means that it is training with ground warfare in mind.

The United States and France previously proposed a 21-day (3-week) ceasefire to prevent an all-out ground war between Israel and Hezbollah. The European Union (EU) and Arab countries supported it.

Regarding the ceasefire plan, some media reported that there was some kind of green light from the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Accordingly, there were expectations about easing the intensifying tensions in the Middle East.

However, the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office issued a statement after the related report, saying, “Reports about the ceasefire are inaccurate,” and added, “The Prime Minister has instructed the IDF to continue the fight with all its might.”

It dismissed the theory of hope raised around the ceasefire plan. The Prime Minister’s Office also said, “The battle in Gaza will continue until the goals of the war are achieved.”
