Donald Trump is “safe and sound” after shots were reported this Sunday near where he was in Florida, his campaign team announced, two months after the assassination attempt against the Republican candidate for the US presidential elections in November.

The former president, who according to press reports was at his golf club in that state in the south of the country, is “safe and healthy after shots were fired in his vicinity,” his campaign communications director said in a note. Steven Cheung.

“There are no further details at this time,” he added.

The Secret Service, in charge of protecting presidents, former presidents and high-profile political figures in the United States, announced on the social network which took place shortly before 2:00 p.m. (6:00 p.m. GMT).

“The former president is safe,” confirmed the Secret Service.

The agency’s communications manager, Anthony Guglielmi, assured in X that a press release with “additional details” about the events will be published later.

It is unknown who fired the shots and whether the former president (2017-2021) of the United States, 78, would have been their target.

According to the first elements reported by the local press, it could also be a dispute between two people near Trump’s golf club.

This incident occurs within the framework of a critical presidential campaign, in which, in the space of a few weeks, Trump himself had already suffered an assassination attempt, President Joe Biden abandoned the race for reelection and Vice President Kamala Harris launched into battle to replace him in the Democratic field.

– Biden and Harris “relieved” –

Biden and Harris expressed their “relief” after learning that Trump was “safe and healthy.”

According to a press release from the White House, the president and his vice president “will be periodically informed by their teams.”

“Violence has no place” in the United States, Harris declared.

On July 13, Trump was shot in the ear in a shootout that left one dead and two wounded at a political event in Pennsylvania, one of the six or seven key states for the presidential elections, which will be held on July 5. November.

Images of the former president with a bloody face and raised fist spread around the world and shook the campaign.

The incident led to the resignation of the then head of the Secret Service and the withdrawal of the official license of at least five agents from that unit.

A week later, on July 21, under pressure from his own Democratic camp after a disastrous debate with Trump, President Biden, 81, resigned from running for re-election and gave way to Harris.

Since then, the confrontation between the Republican leader and his 59-year-old Democratic rival has escalated.
