The completion of the process of submitting binding offers for the project “Design, Construction, Financing, Maintenance and Operation Minagiotiko Dam through PPP”, which will be implemented as a PPP project, included in the Water 2.0 program, the minister announced of Agricultural Development & Food Kostas Tsiaras, the deputy minister of National Economy and Finance Nikos Papathanasis, the Deputy Minister of Rural Development & Food Dionysis Stamenitis and the Secretary General of Union Resources and Infrastructure Dimitris Papagiannidis.

The binding bids for the project, with a budget of 96,494,657.15 euros (plus VAT) in terms of net present value with parallel funding of 29,550,000.00 euros from the Recovery Fund, i.e. a total of 126,044,657.15 euros, were submitted through ESIDIS , from the companies GEK TERNA-T.E. CH. D. KONSTANTINIDIS, and MYTILINEOS S.A.-INTRAKAT-MESOGEOIS S.A.

As emphasized in a joint announcement by the Ministries of Rural Development and Finance, this is the fourth consecutive PPP project to be auctioned and the first to include the construction of a dam and an irrigation network. It concerns the implementation of all the required studies, the construction, financing, maintenance and operation of the project that is located in P.E. Messinia and includes the Minagiotiko Dam, the closed underground tubular irrigation network.

The technical characteristics

The project concerns the study, financing, construction, operation and maintenance of the Minagiotiko Dam and a modern irrigation network with the aim of covering the irrigation needs of the region, with an irrigated area of ​​approximately 35,000 acres in the Municipality of Pylos – Nestoros and the Municipality of Messina.

The duration of the Partnership Agreement is 25 years, including the construction time of the Project.

In summary, the object of the Partnership Agreement concerns the Minagiotiko Dam which is a gravity dam made of hard embankment, 49 meters high, whose total volume of the reservoir is about 11 million m2. The irrigation network consists of five irrigation zones . Included are the intake works, the required reformation tanks, the pumping stations and the primary and secondary irrigation network that ends in the water intakes.

The First Phase of the Project, which includes the works to be constructed in the area of ​​the Dam, i.e. the diversion work, the dam, the water intake work, Pump Station A1, the supply pipelines to Reservoir D1, Reservoir D1 which irrigates an area of ​​18,810 acres and the corresponding irrigation network, will be delivered complete and operational in 18 months. The entire project will be built in 36 months.

With all the above interventions under the responsibility of the General Secretariat of Union Resources and Infrastructure of the HYPAAT, in collaboration with the PPP Unit of the Ministry of National Economy and Finance, an improvement in the competitiveness of the agricultural sector and mitigation of the effects of climate change is achieved, as noted by the ministries of Rural Development and Finance.
