ZDF fired the former head of the first political editorial group, Matthias Fornoff, from his post in May for misconduct towards colleagues. After conflicting accusations, they go their separate ways.

Several months after the allegations of assault became known, ZDF finally parted ways with its former publisher and head of the main editorial department for politics and current affairs, Matthias Fornoff. The reporter no longer works for ZDF, a spokesperson for the broadcaster told the Evangelical Press Agency (epd) on Wednesday.

ZDF did not want to answer questions. The broadcaster also made it open whether he had been terminated or the employment relationship ended in some other way, citing “customary confidentiality in human affairs”.

The long-time ZDF reporter worked for the station in several leading positions, including as correspondent and studio manager in Washington and as presenter of “heute” news. In his role as head of politics at the station, he edits the “Politbarometer” in addition to several “ZDF specials”.

“Misconduct towards peers”

In May, ZDF announced that Fornoff would be relieved of his former position following “complaints about misconduct towards colleagues.” In the future, he should take on a new role without administrative responsibility in the editor-in-chief of the general broadcaster.

Cord”Bild“Three longtime editors are said to have complained to the station’s management about the 61-year-old’s behavior and complained that their bosses had put them in “unpleasant personal situations” and that they get hurt as a result.

ZDF journalist Shakuntala Banerjee has already been selected as Fornoff’s successor as the future head of the main editorial team. He is scheduled to take over on November 1st.
