Opening of the 2nd edition of the Marrakech Parliamentary Economic Forum for the Euro-Mediterranean and Gulf region

The opening session of this Forum was marked by speeches by the President of the APM, President of the House of Advisors, Enaam Mayara, the President of the House of Representatives, Rachid Talbi El Alami, as well as representatives of legislative institutions and parliamentary groups in Africa, the Arab world, Latin, Central and South America.

The various participants highlighted the importance of this forum in strengthening cooperation ties between the geopolitical groups concerned, the aim being to converge views and action approaches to jointly address economic, political and security challenges. .

They also highlighted the multidimensional challenges and risks inherent in particular to climate change, the still worrying repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic and the worsening of the various crises.

During this ceremony, the APM Excellence in Humanitarian Action Award was presented to the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Acharif Agency, executive arm of the Al-Quds Committee, chaired by His Majesty King Mohammed VI , in recognition of the valuable services and efforts deployed by the Agency in favor of humanitarian and social action on the ground. This award was received by the director responsible for managing the Agency, Mohamed Salem Echarkaoui.

Participants had the opportunity to attend the screening of a film presenting the humanitarian and social activities of the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Acharif Agency, as well as the various efforts to preserve the legal status of the Holy City.

This Forum, whose constitutive session took place in December 2022 in the ocher city, represents an ideal opportunity for parliamentarians and founding partners of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean to interact with political and economic actors from the public and private sectors , as well as with academic circles and civil society.

This second edition will deal with two main themes, namely “The transition to green energy” and “Support for entrepreneurship and small and medium-sized businesses in this process”.

For two days, the participants will focus on examining the means and mechanisms to meet the challenges linked to the production and access to affordable, sustainable and clean energy in the Mediterranean and Gulf regions, while focusing on regional solutions specifically designed to support entrepreneurship, small and medium-sized businesses and economic growth

The organization of this second edition of the forum reflects the PAM’s commitment to the process of strengthening parliamentary cooperation in order to create a more integrated and sustainable economic and financial zone between the Euro-Mediterranean countries and the Gulf countries.

The PAM, of which Morocco holds the presidency, in the person of Mr. Mayara, for the period 2023-2024, has the main objective of forging political, economic and social cooperation between member states in order to find solutions. common to the challenges facing the region, while creating a space of peace and prosperity for the people.

Created in 2005, this international organization brings together 34 member parliaments from the Euro-Mediterranean and Gulf regions.
