With the aim of preparing the Salvadoran population for earthquake emergencies, the Government of El Salvador launched the Earthquake Alert App in the country, which allows providing quick and accurate information about events.
«The priority is to be prepared. From our Threat Observatory we maintain real-time monitoring, supported by the stations, this infrastructure allows us to provide quick and accurate information about events,” said the Minister of the Environment, Fernando López.
The head of MARN explained that for the implementation of this system, the seismic network has been reinforced with the installation of 25 new high-performance instruments, in addition to collaboration with neighboring countries to, precisely, optimize its capabilities.
“The application has a range of up to 50 kilometers from the epicenter of the earthquake, providing alerts not only when certain parameters are met, but also provides warnings seconds before the seismic movement,” said López.
“The application is available on Android platforms minimum version 8.0 and also on iOS minimum version 15.0, and you always need to have a stable internet connection,” said the official.
