Gangnam-gu won the ‘Grand Prize’ at the Korea Healthy City Award. Gangnam-gu, a city where dreams gather, drawing the future, won the grand prize (Minister of Health and Welfare Award) in the joint policy category of the ‘2024 Korea Healthy Cities Award’ hosted by the Korea Healthy Cities Council held at Dongdaemun Design Plaza on the 25th.
The Korea Healthy Cities Council, to which 103 local governments across the country have joined, has been holding this competition since 2006 with the purpose of sharing policies and information between local governments and improving people’s health and health equity. This competition was held from June 3 to 28, and 47 cities submitted 60 projects in two fields: common policy and general policy. Of these, 121) cities were selected. In order to respond to climate change, the district is highly evaluated for encouraging residents to practice a carbon-neutral life by promoting three major strategies: ▲ a safe city through carbon neutrality, ▲ a clean city without worrying about fine dust, and ▲ a healthy city with green forests. received. In particular, the carbon neutral policy promoted in cooperation with 10 companies in the region, including SK Telecom and POSCO International, attracted attention as Gangnam-gu’s unique ESG policy.
In addition, systematic fine dust management measures were implemented to improve the health of residents in their daily lives. Soundproofing and dustproof walls at the construction site were installed at a height of more than 10m, which is higher than the legal standard of 3m, and fine dust and noise were managed using a digital automatic measurement system. We operated free zones, green smart shelters, and cooling fog to reduce fine dust on the roads. In addition, to expand urban green space, a ‘Walkable Green Way’ was created connecting Dosan-daero – Yeongdong-daero – Teheran-ro – Gangnam-daero, and a barrier-free path and healing forest were created in Daemosan Mountain so that residents could get closer to nature.
