Bengaluru: Global technology company Zoho Corporation is also ready to participate in the government’s semiconductor mission. This has been accepted by Zoho Chief Executive Sridhar Vembu himself. He has said that the company has applied to the government to build a chip manufacturing facility.
Approval has not been received yet
Shridhar Joho told NBT that he has applied with a partner to develop a semiconductor manufacturing facility. But, approval has not been received yet. He said that the evaluation process in this regard is strict. A lot of questions are being asked. Those questions are being answered. Still awaiting approval. He avoided the question with whom he had applied.
There will be an investment of 700 million dollars?
A media report regarding Zoho’s semiconductor plant states that the company has proposed an investment of $700 million. When Sridhar was asked about possible investment, he said once the approval is received. Everything will be told. Right now we are just waiting for approval.
Subsidy from government in semiconductor mission
On the subsidy given under Semiconductor Mission, he said that the government’s policy for this is clear. But without evaluation of the project, the government cannot provide assistance in it. What is important here is where are we bringing semiconductor technology from and how much will it cost? By the way, he told that quality questions are being raised by the government. He is happy that the government is also serious about this.
Where will you get the technology from?
Sridhar says that 50 different vendors are involved in the semiconductor project. Each of these provides a part of the process. “We should partner with many of them,” he said. Unfortunately most of the technologies are not available in India. We should go to America, Britain, Taiwan, Singapore and Japan. It takes time. It is too early to comment now.
Where will the plant be built
Assembling partners and paying royalties for technologies and licenses come first, followed by selecting the location, he said. He says that for the semiconductor plant, a place rich in water and electricity will have to be selected. According to him, ‘We do not want to go to an area with water shortage. Also electricity is also important. It is too early to comment on the location.
ONDC’s Vikra app launched
Zoho on Wednesday launched Vikra, a seller app on the government-backed Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC). Along with this, a scalable low-code platform has also been launched. The company says that it will enable small businesses to create and use custom Internet of Things solutions. Those using this app will have to pay 1% of the selling price as a fee.
