Versatile singer Munir Hussain: His songs keep him alive

(24News) Renowned playback singer Munir Hussain passed away 29 years ago today, he was the first singer of Pakistan who got success in Urdu and Punjabi films at the same time.

During his 36-year career, Munir Hussain sang 217 songs for 163 films, which included Punjabi songs in addition to Urdu. Raised to the heights of fame, for the recording of this song, his uncle Rashid Atre had prepared him a lot.

In his heyday he was the second most popular film singer in Pakistan after singer Saleem Raza, he and Saleem Raza ruled the playback singing field in the Pakistani film industry in the 1950s and 1960s.

Munir Hussain’s paternal uncle Rashid Atre, who belongs to a musician family, was a great musician of Pakistan, while his cousin Safdar Hussain was also a famous musician, thus Jahit Atre, the composer who scored most of the films in Pakistan, was his cousin.

The duet “Ik Cheez Gwachi” with Queen Tarnam Noorjahan was also popular which was included in the Punjabi film “Nooran”. “Dilan Utag Jayar Da Nazara Lane De” for Makhra is also among his most popular songs, but the duet “Vanjali Waldia” for the film “Hiranjha” with Queen Tarnam Noor Jahan is his evergreen song, sung by Khawaja Khursheed Anwar. Ahmed Rahi was the creator of this epic song.

Munir Hussain passed away on September 27, 1995.
