This Wednesday a demonstration outside the Tec de Monterreyon the Via Atlixcáyotl in Pueblain which students, teachers and parents reported sexual violence and harassment to the director of the Faculty of Architecture, Art and Design, Omar “N”.

At the same time, they denounced the full-time teacher Álvaro “N” for this type of violence against the students. The protesters claim that both professors are “protected” by the institution.

Likewise, they demanded justice for teacher Mericia, who they presume was unjustifiably fired from Tec for denouncing systemic harassment towards her. by Álvaro “N”.

The woman, who preferred to keep her last name anonymous as well as her face in the protest, assured that during her dismissal she suffered violence and, she stated, that the institution was “complicit” with these two men who are part of the teaching group.

Teacher Mericia was forced to sign resignation

During the protest, Mericia reported that the day she was removed from her position, she was removed from class.

“While I was giving my art appreciation class, I was taken out by the director of the department, Omar “N”, they took me to a room where they did not let me leave, they deprived me of my freedom, of medical attention and finally they forced me to sign a resignation,” explained the teacher, who also reported that she suffered harassment from Álvaro “N”, who, she declared, was also in charge of harassing the students of this faculty.

For their part, fathers and mothers joined the demonstration to ask that the alleged harassers be removed from their positions.

The mother of one of the affected young women, Jennifer, reported that director Omar “N” allegedly asked for photos of his daughter and the high school students via Instagram, where “they looked sexier.”

Given this, the student, who is now at the university, declared in an interview for 24 hours that she was afraid of being expelled from the institution, so she preferred to keep her testimony anonymous.

She narrated that for a long time she received messages via Instagram from Omar “N”, in which he requested these intimate photos, in addition, he made comments of a sexual nature, a situation that she claims “made her feel uncomfortable.”

In this sense, another group of students reported that Professor Miguel N sought to have inappropriate physical contact with the students and stated that “if you were wearing a skirt he couldn’t stop seeing your legs.”

Among many other testimonies, another young woman accused that she was raped by other students, in the gym located within the Tec facilities.

Ethos platform is inefficient

Although the university has a platform to report these types of acts, the students and teachers said that it is inefficient since they do not finish investigating cases of sexual abuse and harassment.

That is why in reading the petition, the protesters requested the dismissal of the teachers and directors identified as well as clear investigations of the complaints.

They stated that they would not stop until they had a resolution, in the event that the institution did not guarantee them anything, they stressed that they would go to the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) to file a complaint.

Batucada accompanied them

Around 8:30 a.m., the Lenchamanas batucada, from the feminist collective El Taller, arrived outside the Tec to accompany the protesters and join their fight.

All dressed in orange in commemoration of Orange Day, with feminist insignia such as “And let the sexists tremble, for Latin America will be all feminist.”
