“This is an American and French proposal to which the prime minister has not even responded,” Netanyahu’s office said in a statement, adding that the prime minister had ordered the army to “continue the fight with full force.”

In a separate statement, the army said that on Thursday morning, the tank brigade carried out exercises “a few kilometers from the Lebanese border in a mountainous area”.

“During the exercise, the troops improved their operational and logistical readiness for various combat scenarios in enemy territory on the northern front,” the statement said.

Defense Minister Joav Galant has also promised to continue attacks on “Hezbollah”.

“We will continue to knock Hezbollah off balance and make their losses even heavier,” the minister said in a statement released by his office.

The United States, the European Union (EU) and several Arab countries have issued a joint call for a 21-day ceasefire in Lebanon.

Since Monday, Israel has been carrying out extensive airstrikes against Hezbollah-related targets in Lebanon. Several hundred people, including civilians, were killed in the strikes.

The call for a cease-fire came hours after Israel’s army chief, Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi, ordered troops to prepare for a possible ground offensive against Hezbollah on Wednesday.
